what year is the car? if its over 10 years old, in most states you can junk the car at scrapyard and get about 100 bucks and just tell them you lost the title. They wont need it, they will just sell the car for scrap metal. Believe me ive done this myself with an old car, we live in NC.

Go apply for a lost title just tell them you lost it and needs another one or alot of places will still take it even if you dont have a title .Or put a for sale sign on it like " for sale ,no title " or " for sale for parts " U can still sell it but the person buying will have to apply for lost title . you might not get much for it that way but it will be gone .I would go apply for a lost title just tell them u lost it and need another one. i dont know what the price is but i know u can do it . That's exactly what I did to my ex with our old camper… she was uncooperative with selling it to anyone, so I loaded it up with a bunch of crap that she wouldn't take from the house, and left it on her lawn.

BTW- in this state you need only supply the title to a junkyard not sign it.
Tell the repair shop you cannot afford to pay for repair or store it they can have it towed for storage fees or you can also tell her to sign it over or you will have the storgae bill sent to her.

if little money to you, then sign the title and leave the car at her house.
I sold a car once, and the person paid with a certified check. The next day she changed her mind, drove the car and left it in my driveway and left the title on the seat, and I had NO choice or options. I sold the car to someone else. She stopped payment on a CERTIFIED check. If you wife co-owns the car I see no court ruling that it should not be in her driveway if you have no place to park it. She is CO-owner and CO-responsible for repairs, property taxes and storage.
And many cars are sold on Ebay without a title. Just look.
The buyers can get one with some sort of affidavit.

I had 2 junk car that my ex and I owned..He was awarded the 2 junk cars and 2 of the good cars..he took the good ones and left the junk ones for a while..He would not let me pay to have them delivered to an address of his choice so after 1 1/2 yrs. i called a towing company and they came and paid me $465.00 to take both cars—- they didn't need a title or need to know what was going on…
When you are dealing with someone who is unreasonable then you just do the best you can…Does SHE know that the garage that is holding ya'lls vehicle can charge you by the day for it sitting there?
Anyway, junk the car if you want too, make the company give you a statement that they picked it up and how much they paid you— save 1/2 just in case you are ordered to give her half, and junk the car……:)

You could just call a junk yard and sell it for scrap, but I think towing it to your wife and signing over the title to her sounds like a better move.

She can decide what to do with it at that point.

Well, since it is obviously an asset of marriage and apparently belongs to BOTH of you (Mary is off base) then the Mechanic's Lien on storage belongs to BOTH of you as well. The debts and assets of a marriage a dispersed accordingly. She is only creating a debt for herself by being spiteful.

I might suggest this to her, and see what happens.

No matter how she reacts… Find a place for that car ASAP because the storage fees can add up quickly!!! My family owns a repair shop and although you never want to ***** a customer it does get very troublesome when a junk vehicle is taking up space on the lot. You need to account for a place for cars actually being repaired. We have had to turn away BIG jobs because we didn't have the storage space for a motor rebuild because we couldn't get a junker GONE.

And I am pretty sure most people are right that a title isn't nec for a junker, but check with one in your state.

In the meantime, go get another vehicle in YOUR name, and be sure that the legal separation is filed. Also, check with your lawyer as to whether or not she would be responsible or entitled to anything pertaining to the new car considering it was purchased during separation.

As far as the registraion renewal coming due… If the car isn't towed streetfront and (obviously) isn't being driven then the registration can be expired without renewal. Maybe even considering turning the tags back into the state.
