Towed Junk Car – Fees and Impound?
Winny asked:
I was in the process of getting the title for my car so i could junk it. The problem is that it was towed today and now sits in an impound collecting a $50 a day charge. The state (ca) cannot get me a real title for 60 days so i cannot sign over the title to the tow company. So the car is going to sit there for 30 days then they (tow company) will sell it at auction. Whats going to happen to me as far as fees? Will the tow company come after me? Should i pay the current fines and have them tow it back to my house until i get the title?

If you zoning in your neighborhood will allow it, then yes tow it back to your house and start selling parts off of it on Ebay. You may be able to break even on this. Also try Craigslist.com and see if you can sell parts locally.
When the title comes comes then sell what's left to a salvage yard. good luck.

Unless CA law(I should stop right here) is greatly different from other states, the tow co. can only put a mechanics lien against the car and sell it. This will satisfy all claims they have against you and you owe nothing. The car is not in your name yet so technically it doesn't belong to you.
