How long should a car last?

I traded in my first three cars between 70 and 80 K miles. One of them was mifing antifreeze with transmission fluid. My fourth – a Chrysler Town and Country is going stong at 148K.
Now I have come to expect that a car should last 175-200k miles. Any car that lasts less than 150K is piece of junk.
Money I spend on car should go towards building me a great machine and not towards providing the UAW contract clauses that are not possible for all working Americans.
If I have enough patriotism to buy American cars, I want American Auto Workers to have enough patriotism to make building me a durable, quality vehicle a priority over getting Union benefits that none of the non-union working class Amreicans can ever recieve.
Am I wrong in thinking that way?

Nope I totally agree with however I unlike you do not continue to buy American cars I refuse to have to replace (or nearly rebuild) them at under 100K just not worth it

noone really makes a p.o.s.–they would get a bad name and not make $. find a dealership svc. dept or mechanic you trust and do everything they recomend—cut corners–lose in the end

No, you are not wrong in your ways of thinking but like all things made by us americans we do have quality issues because of our lack of disciplane. We are a free country and we tack advantage of that and think that employers owe us something that is where the union comes in. Car made oversea's are built with strict guidlines because there country is ran that way but like all things made we can make them last if we take good care of them and not abuse them. I personally own all ford and chevy products and one is at 240k miles with very little maitanace. Maybe i'm lucky or it was built on a wednesday not on a monday or a friday.
