You definitely have a problem, when you went to the junk yard they had to ensure you where the right full owner of the car in order to do the deal, so did you sign something saying you where the owner?

It seems the problem: 1) you knew the car was not yours, 2) stolen property relates to you selling the car which you knew was not yours to the junk yard 3) and the fictitious ownership relating to the transaction with the junk yard

Better lawyer up since the DA is going after you, since it sounds like your ex made a sworn complaint about it

Hindsight should have left the car when you moved out

all car titles are recorded at the DMV. the owners name is also recorded. if the title was in your name, it would have to be transferred to her name for her to have ownership.

no they cant charge you with a criminal offense but the owner can sue you for what you got from selling the car. The thing is since it was not under your name then if the owner finds out you will have alot of legal papers to fill out. But dont worry about theft charges because it was not reported stolen and it was sold legally without chopping it. But you will face alot of civil claims which is not criminal just a pain in your *** and wallet
